Schoolgirl Sydney Hathway had her wish of a luxury holiday abroad granted by Starlight Children’s Foundation, the UK’s leading wish granting charity for children and young people with serious and terminal illness.
Sydney suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, a life-limiting condition that severely affects the major organs, particularly the lungs. Her condition is managed with a cocktail of medication, physiotherapy and nebulizer devices.
Despite her condition, 13-year-old Sydney has always remained bright and positive.
She’s very outgoing and loves spending time with friends and family. She enjoys singing and would love to become a songwriter when she grows up.
Sydney, who lives in Pocklington, had always wanted to have a luxury holiday abroad so she could sunbathe and have fun.
So when she was referred to Starlight for a wish it didn’t take her long to decide what she’d choose… a sunny holiday in Spain.
Starlight sent Sydney and her family to the beautiful Villa Mirador in Spain for a week. The villa is set in large private grounds among olive groves in the foothills of the Pyrenees with breath-taking views of the Mediterranean.
When they arrived they saw how magnificent the villa was and were amazed by the views over the Bay of Roses, which could also be enjoyed from the villa’s infinity pool.
Sydney said: “I absolutely loved the villa. I felt so relaxed and happy. The beaches were great and it was very luxurious. It was good to get away from school and go abroad, it was a great experience.”
Sydney and her family visited the famous Salvador Dali museum; went by by boat to Cadaques, a beautiful small town, and saw many more beautiful sites in the area. Sydney also went parasailing.
Her mum, Janine, said: “It was great to see Sydney so relaxed and happy and the whole family had a great holiday. The villa and local area was beautiful and we didn’t want to leave.
“It was great to spend time together just exploring and relaxing.”
