Stunning floral displays were on show at a village church to help raise much-needed funds for the historic building.

Wilberfoss St John the Baptist Church and the Viking Flower Club, based at Stamford Bridge, teamed up to hold a flower festival last Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, a ‘Bucks Fizz’ launch was held at the church last Friday evening, which nearly 90 people attended.

The festival was held to launch a money raising appeal for the church, which is in desperate need of repairs to its chancel roof. Fundraisers for the church hope the Chancel Repair Fund raises about £70,000.

In total, the festival raised about £6,000 for the cause.

Peter Green, reader at the church, has hailed the event a huge success.

He said: “It was a wonderful turn out. It was really good weather, a lot of people came through the door. There was a good atmosphere, everyone enjoyed it.”

He added: “The flower club put on a magnificent display, we couldn’t have asked for any more. It was incredible.”
