Charities and voluntary organisations in Market Weighton received a cash boost from this year’s mayoral fundraising.

The total raised was £1,860, which has been divided equally between the beneficiaries. Funding given to The Scotts Croft Association will help pay for additional items and days out for the elderly of the Scotts Croft Sheltered Housing, on Scotts Croft.

Other charities to benefit from the fundraising include Dove House Hospice, which has a charity shop on High Street and has cared for many people from the town, and The Connor Lancaster Foundation Trust, to help a local man suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. All the money raised is from raffles and donations by visiting civic heads, individual councillors and local businesses, at various events organised by the town council throughout the year.
