MARKET WEIGHTON based France’s Motors has officially been taken over after 83 years as a family business.

The coach side of the business has been bought by York Pullman which will continue to run the business under the France’s Motors name.

Frederick France, 66, has now retired while his brother and fellow director, Timmy France, 69, retired six years ago.

The brothers have worked for the family business for more than 40 years but decided to sell it because their was nobody in their family to take it over.

France’s Motors, which also has a haulage arm, was started by Frederick and Timmy’s father James in 1927 under the name of R & J France for the haulage business and Ideal Motor Services for the coach business.

In 1971, the coach and haulage were amalgamated and France’s Motors was formed with James, Frederick and Timmy being named the three directors.

York Pullman runs coach and bus services with a 50-plus fleet and has services that go to Elvington, Sutton-on-Derwent, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and Stamford Bridge.
