AN ENTREPRENEUR from Market Weighton has received some invaluable business advice from TV Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis after using social media tool Twitter.
Emma Midwood, of Wold Avenue, runs an online business called Piglets Boutique, which sells unique and quirky baby gifts.
In October last year the 31-year-old took part in Theo’s Small Business Sunday (SBS) contest on Twitter, where every Sunday, between 5pm and 7.30pm, Theo re-tweets six tweets from businesses to his followers.
The winning businesses receive priceless exposure to Theo’s quarter of a million followers on Twitter.
Mrs Midwood was delighted to be one of the lucky six whose business was chosen that week.
Mrs Midwood said: “It is fantastic to know that he personally has looked at the Piglets Boutique website, liked what he saw and chose me as a winner.
“It was great exposure for the website.”
At the end of last month, Mrs Midwood was invited to an SBS winners event to meet Theo and pick up some business tips from him.
The celebrity gave an inspirational talk to the winners and answered their questions.
Mrs Midwood said: “He spoke about how he started out and the problems he faced and the bad days you might have. He told us if you believe in what you’re doing to keep going.
“It was quite an inspirational talk.”
During the event, Theo told the business men and women about a new website he has set up for them which they can use to upload their profiles and create links to their websites, providing even more exposure for the businesses.
Mrs Midwood has already started reaping the rewards from the online exposure.
She said: “Since the event in Birmingham it’s been quite crazy.
“I have had some more sales because of it and the reports on my website have shot up.”
