As part of the Year 9 curriculum a ‘leadership’ module has been introduced. The module involves the students planning and delivering PE lessons to their peers. Over the first few weeks students are given guidance on how to plan and deliver a basic PE lesson and then, when they are ready, it is over to them.
They lead sessions with a partner and deliver to half of the PE group at a time. When the session is finished the group then identifies leadership strengths and areas for improvement.
Mr Yeadon said: “Year 9 students have taken this concept on very quickly and in a mature manner. So far, they have delivered four sessions to each other and these have been very well received by their peers. They have obviously enjoyed coming up with their own ideas and taking charge of their own lessons”.
