Creativity and an artistic eye have helped youngsters at a local nursery win a place in the finals of a nationwide art competition.
Children at Blue Sky Day Nursery in Market Weighton got into the festive spirit recently and created Christmas cards, which were entered in the minimecardco.com competition.
Cards made by three of the children - Emily McCollum, aged two, Patrick Mauracheea, aged 11 months and three-year-old Bryant Louch - have since made it through to the finals.
“Creativity is so important for children and it helps them develop in so many ways,” said Simon Matthews from Blue Sky.
“We aim to help our children to develop great life skills for use in later life.
“We really enjoy doing the artworks which were made into Christmas cards and whilst we thought they were good, we never expected to get to the finals.”
The artworks created by Emily, Patrick and Bryant will now be judged by a professional artist to decide the overall winner.
Simon said: “There are some great prizes, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.”
The minimecardco.com competition receives entries from across the UK.
