DRIFFIELD’S MP, Greg Knight, got behind the wheel of a new innovative electricity-powered 5 ton truck – one of the first in the country to go on the road.
Produced by Paneltex of Hull, the refrigerated delivery vehicle has zero emissions and is converted from a standard Isuzu van.
Joining the MP on the test drive was Chris Tallett, electrical technician from Paneltex, who helped to develop the vehicle.
Mr Knight drove the vehicle on the A165 and said he was “very impressed, not only with its turn of speed, but with its eco credentials.”
The MP added: “At present the vehicle is best suited for local deliveries as it has a battery range of about 100 miles, but there is no doubt that electric vehicles will have an important, growing role to play in the future.”
Mr Knight praised Paneltex for pioneering the development of the electric truck.
