At a recent East Riding of Yorkshire Council Cabinet Meeting it was agreed to suspend Council car parking charges throughout the East Riding for the three weekends leading up to Christmas.
This will be from 8.00am Saturday to 8.00am Monday on the weekends of 7/8, 14/15 and 21/22.
However, in a move to encourage best use of parking spaces the rules regarding length of stay will still apply.
Cllr Felicity Temple said:
“Our independent traders are increasingly up against the large out of town retail parks. By having these periods of free parking at weekends it effectively transforms our town into a mall”
Cllr Barbara Hall added:
“This makes good sense for our residents at a time when every penny counts”
Cllr Symon Fraser also welcomed the news, saying:
“This special free parking in the lead up to Christmas will support Driffield residents and local traders.”
