A local councillor has spoken of her delight after a bus service was saved.
A replacement bus service will continue the transport link between Holme on Spalding Moor and York after three councils joined forces.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council had been working with City of York Council and North Yorkshire County Council to organise a replacement service after East Yorkshire Motor Services took the commercial decision to cancel its Service 18 bus service.
Howdenshire Ward Councillor Victoria Aitken said: “This is very good news for the residents who have needed to used the 18 Bus Service for work and school and I’m thrilled the ERYC transport team have seen the importance of this service. The addition of a shuttle service between villages and the newly time tabled 18 service is an unusual step and one which I am sure residents will welcome. I hope that the medical practices in the area will be able to accommodate residents needs around this provision.
“This will not be the end of this problem because the service still has to be arranged post the three month short contract.
“I cannot emphasis too strongly that a commercial decision will have to be made in the future so it is imperative that people use the service or we will lose it.”
