Cyclist allegedly assaulted

A cyclist from North Cave was allegedly assaulted by a motorist on a busy road in the East Riding.

The incident happened at 9.50am on Wednesday 3 April on Warter Road, a single track road in Middleton-on-the-Wolds near Driffield.

The victim, a 49-year-old man, was cycling along the road with a friend when a queue of traffic began to form behind them due to a nearby road closure and increased traffic volume in the area.

It is alleged that the driver of a blue Vauxhall Vivaro van shouted at the cyclist who responded by shrugging his shoulders in an exaggerated fashion.

At this point the van driver is said to have got out of his vehicle and ran at the cyclist, shouting and swearing and then used both hands to push the cyclist backwards onto the grass verge.

The cyclist sustained no injuries.

It is believed other motorists may have witnessed the altercation and they are asked to contact Humberside Police on the non-emergency number 101 referring to log 302 of 03 April 2013 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
