A system has gone on sale which helps to combat the scourge of metal theft from public buildings such as churches.
The Trace-in-Metal system differs from any other on the market as it uses professional engineers to infuse thousands of coded nickel microdots into the lead that survive melting.
At the same time installers also apply thousands of the same dots and the postcode to surfaces in a weather resistant UV ink.
The company behind the scheme work closely with police and the recycling industry to support the new Scrap Metal Dealers Act so that all stolen lead can be identified.
