Craft-loving locals turned out in force for a fundraising event in Market Weighton despite bad weather.

About 200 people attended an annual craft fair at the Community Hall, on Southgate, organised by the venue’s management committee. It featured 22 stalls, selling pottery, cup cakes, jewellery, soft toys, artwork, crocheted items and much more.

The event, held in aid of the hall, raised £512, which will go towards the cost of decorating the venue this year.

Ilja King, secretary of the hall, was pleased with the turn out considering it rained on the day.

She said: “It was almost as good as last year when the weather was good.

“I am pleased we had good comments from stallholders, most want to come back next year.”

She added: “This is the third annual fair, we’re hoping to do one every year to raise funds for the hall.

“This year we are doing decorating, it’s going to be in the thousands, so we have to keep raising money all the time.”
