This year’s East Riding of Yorkshire Council compost giveaway was one of the busiest yet with 5,000 bags offered free to residents.

Ten giveaway events were held across the area, including at Market Weighton and Pocklington. There was a large turn-out at each site with residents queuing up to collect their two free 15kg bags of compost.

Councillor Symon Fraser, the council’s portfolio holder for strategic asset management, housing and environment, said: “I’m pleased the compost giveaways are so popular and that residents can benefit from supporting our recycling schemes.”
