Paul Merton and his Impro Chums are coming to the Platform Festival in Pocklington

Have I Got News for You star and popular comic Paul Merton will be among the headline acts at this year’s second annual Platform Festival in Pocklington.

Pocklington Arts Centre, which is staging the four-day event at Pocklington’s old station from 13-16 July, has also announced that The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain will be another headline act at the music and comedy festival.

Following on from Al Murray – The Pub Landlord’s sold out performance at last year’s Platform Festival, the highly acclaimed Paul Merton’s Improv Chums will take to the stage on 14 July. Merton, along with his highly renowned Impro Chums Mike McShane, Lee Simpson, Richard Vranch and Suki Webster, creates a brand new show every night, inspired by suggestions from the audience as well as their own finely honed improvisational skills.

Merton is a founder member of The Comedy Store Players and still appears at the Comedy Store most Sundays. He is a regular guest on Radio 4’s Just A Minute and is an established face on TV shows such as BBC’s Have I Got News For You and Room 101.

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain will be taking to the stage of the old station on 13 July at 8pm. Pocklington Arts Centre will be announcing the line-up for the final two days of the festival, on 15 and 16 July, exclusively in the Pocklington Post in the next fortnight.

James Duffy, assistant manager at Pocklington Arts Centre, said: “We are delighted to have secured Paul and his Improv Chums for the festival. We first saw perform at the Edinburgh Festival several years ago and have admired their work ever since. The audience is an integral part of the show, with suggestions requested throughout the two-hour set. This we feel will add to the overall atmosphere of the event and festival as a whole. We expect tickets to sell quickly, so advance booking is advised.

As reported in the 4 February Pocklington Post, the Platform Festival, which was launched in 2015, has been shortlisted for a prestigious Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Award in the ‘Best Newcomer’ category with an award ceremony taking place at Bridlington Spa on 17 March.
