Organisers of a new fun-packed family day in Pocklington, which will be hosted by a TV star, want to make it the “biggest and best” community event in the area.
The event, called ‘It’s a Pockout’, will be based on the famous gameshow ‘It’s a Knockout’ and the host during the day will be popular TV presenter Keith Chegwin, known by many as ‘Cheggers’. The broadcaster presented a revived version of It’s a Knockout on Channel 5 in 1999.
It’s a Pockout, which is expected to raise thousands of pounds for charity, is being organised by Pocklington and District Lions and will be held on 29 August, a Bank Holiday Monday, at Pocklington Rugby Club, on Percy Road.
The family day will be free to enter and will feature a variety of attractions, including an It’s a Knockout circuit with fun-filled games and challenges. There will also be a parade and a variety of stalls.
Graham Gillyon, a member of the Lions club, said: “It’s going to be a great free family fun-filled show day. There will be toys, slides, big characters and lots and lots of water! There will be food and a bar and various stalls too providing great bank holiday entertainment for everyone.
“We are hoping it’s going to be the biggest and best community event in the region.”
Pocklington and District Lions decided to organise It’s a Pockout after finding out that a Lions club in Humberston, Lincolnshire, has held a similar annual event for the last few years, which has been a huge success.
Mr Gillyon added: “We thought it would be a really good event to have.
“I know Humberston made about £20,000 from one of their events. If we make anywhere near that it would be the single biggest fundraising event for us.”
The Lions club hope to make It’s a Pockout an annual event.
Funds raised from the event will go to Yorkshire Air Ambulance and other locally connected charities.
