A young cook will show off his culinary ability at York’s St Nicholas’s Christmas Market after impressing in a Yorkshire-wide chef competition.
York College catering student Zach Abbott, 16, from Stamford Bridge, was a finalist in the Golden Apron awards last month, which searches for the region’s best cook, and impressed restaurant co-founder Jonathan Shepherd.
Jonathan’s Yorkshire Wagyu Company had inspired Zach’s dish, a Japanese-originiated wagyu beef meal, and he invited the cooking prodigy to join his business’s team and display his talent at York’s Christmas market.
Jonathan said: “He has been cooking up gourmet Wagyu burgers, much to the delight of visitors to the market.”
Zach has begun a cooking course at college and puts his education to use with kitchen experience on his days off.
