Pocklington residents are being urged to vote for a local archaeological dig which has been nominated for a national award.

The discovery of an Iron Age Cemetery at David Wilson Homes’ Pavilion Square site on Burnby Lane was nominated for Current Archaeology magazine’s Rescue Project of the Year 2018 award. It is now down to the public to decide who wins.

The dig, rated of international importance, produced unique artefacts, including a chariot, and the on-going post excavation analysis is likely rewrite the Iron Age pre-history of East Yorkshire.

The deadline to register a vote is Monday 5 February.

A spokesman for the dig said: “Visit https://www.archaeology.co.uk/awards/rescue-project-year-2018.htm to vote for the project.”
