BUGTHORPE Primary School pupils certainly made a splash at a dance contest and sailed their way through to the finals.
Sixteen youngsters from the year 3/4 class performed a routine to the theme of ‘Water’ at the Dance the Challenge 2011 competition held at Woldgate College, York.
They battled against four other schools, Warter, Barmby Moor, Pocklington Juniors and St. Martin’s Fangfoss, but Bugthorpe’s dance which combined the classic ‘Singing in the Rain’ with Rihanna’s smash hit ‘Umbrella’ impressed the judges the most.
Class teacher Laura Battle was delighted with the pupils achievement and said: “The children had to work very hard in groups and individually to choreograph a dance connected to the theme.
“The dance was called ‘Splashdance’ and it showed a journey of how children could have fun whilst playing outside in the rain, from jumping in puddles to dancing with umbrellas.”
Bugthorpe achieved the overall winners trophy as well as being awarded the Best Technical Ability award.
This means that the school will go on to represent the Pocklington Cluster at a grand final at South Hunsley school in February 2012.
