Members from the 1st Pocklington Brownies group cleaned up West Green last week in a bid to raise funds for the outfit.
Almost 30 people, including 22 Brownies, aged 7-9, two leaders, one young leader and two parents collected items of rubbish discarded in the area.
In all, they gathered up eight sacks of a variety of litter were collected from West Green during the litter pick.
Mel Innes and Teresa Bovingdon, leaders at 1st Pocklington Brownies, said: “Recycling and protecting the environment is an issue close to our Brownies’ hearts, so litter picking seemed a fitting way to mark World Environment Day. The girls all worked really hard and were enthusiastic about helping their community. We are very proud of them.
“We are still collecting sponsorship money so not sure how much we have raised yet but we are hoping to buy new resources for our unit ready for the new Brownie programme which will be introduced this summer.”
