Enthusiastic cyclists will be venturing out into the Wolds to enjoy the Wolds 123 sportive event this weekend.

Riders on the Wolds 123 will have the chance to take in the best of the area when the non-timed 123km event returns to Pocklington’s KP Club on Sunday 1 July.

Participants will have the option to cycle the entire distance of the main route or can shorten it by missing either a 25km loop or a 13km loop along the way. The route takes in a number of climbs and the total elevation is 1,475 metres.

Registration takes place between 8am and 9am at the KP Club, where the ride will commence at 9.30am.

Riders will then be staggered to set off in small groups.

Kate Balchin, at one of the sponsors Wold Top Brewery, said: “As in previous years, some of the Wold Top team will be among the 100 participants. It’s a great and incredibly scenic route, but not without its challenges, so the pint at the finish tends to be well deserved.”

Alongside Wold Top Brewery, specialist bike shop Vive le Velo, based in North Ferriby, will be supporting the event.

The organisers David Hought and Richard Baldwin, who manage the Wold Top Actif Road Racing Team, have designed the route to pass some iconic points in interest in the area.

David said: “There are some fantastic hill climbs and valleys such as Thixendale, and the ride passes through historic landmarks like Castle Howard.”
