Be part of a new era for the Pock Post

We are launching a new, exciting era for your local newspaper.

The Pocklington Post is inviting more of its readers to contribute to a “people’s paper”.

Many readers already write letters, features and club or council reports for the Post, and many more submit a wealth of sports items or photographs. Readers also send us a variety of articles by email.

Thank you to everyone who does so.

But, you can now also join the Post in other ways, either being part of a new Pocklington Post editorial group (see below) or by submitting news items on a more regular basis.

Our reporters will still be covering the big issues with council, court and crime stories, and making sure that your Post is first class.

But we want to create a panel of readers to have their say and to write directly on the pages of their favourite local newspaper.

You can send in articles as a representative of a club or group, or you can submit short articles as an individual.

This is a unique chance to represent your neighbourhood, street or wider community – and it includes Pocklington, in addition to Market Weighton and Stamford Bridge.

We already have a number of people on board, with new articles and columnists on the way to the Post which we will share with you before the big relaunch next month.

Do you think we are missing out on your news or do you have interesting subjects to write about that don’t normally make our columns? Contact us!

And there are dozens of events and meetings taking place each week, from coffee mornings to meetings of the Royal British Legion, book clubs, local history societies, WI gatherings, theatre productions and live music. If you are involved, let us know.

Let us publicise your event in a bigger way. We will support your efforts with access to parts of the newspaper so that you can make quicker and easier inputs.

This is a great chance for you to start the new year with a new role in helping the community.

Half of the pictures in the Pocklington Post are already provided by our readers, and we would like to thank them for sending them to us.

We know that there are fantastic contributions from schools, clubs, groups and correspondents.

We are inviting you to submit any more pictures to help reflect YOUR neighbourhood, YOUR events, YOUR activities, making sure we can carry a full and wide snapshot of the communities each week.

Help make it a Picture Post!

We want the Pocklington Post to reflect YOUR interests and be even more relevant and local to you.

We simply want to carry more news about you, and written by you if you want to join in.

We have already been overwhelmed by the level of interest in the idea in our informal talks and meetings.

The editor and his team will be holding a get-together in Pocklington to explain the new Post idea face-to-face next month. Watch out for details.

And then we will invite folks who would like to join the new Post Panel to a more detailed meeting.

Our edition of Thursday 23 January will be put together with the assistance of all our loyal readers.

You can contribute your articles and ideas to ensure that the paper fully reflects your views and your interests for the community good.

This is how it will work: We are setting up a Post Panel, a group of readers from the Pocklington, Market Weighton and Stamford Bridge areas who will be part of our news meeting in Pocklington. The panel has an added input into how the newspaper is put together, and how the paper remains even more relevant to local life.

If you wish to be considered for a place on the Post Panel, please and, marking the subject line Post Panel, please.

Simply explain in mo more than 50 words why you want to take part and what kind of articles or suggestions you could contribute and email us at

It might embrace stories, points of view, features, photographs or video ... as long as it is local and relevant to the newspaper’s community, we want your input.

We will be revealing more in coming weeks and Tweeting about it at @PockPost.
