It was impossible not to feel festive on entering the Masonic Hall for Pocklington WI’s Christmas meeting.
The tables were set with red and white cloths cracker and candles and as one entered a welcome drink was on offer.
Members of the committee, suitably dressed, served everyone with a delicious hot meal followed by a selection of mouth-watering desserts.
President Barbara Ball welcomed members and four husbands who had been especially invited to say thank you for all the help they had given on the occasion of the recent coffee and sale at St Crux in York.
There was a beautiful cake made by Margaret Hara which was cut and passed for all to enjoy while doing a Christmas quiz, provided by Ann Pearson.
Chris Dodd played a keyboard; carols chosen by members were sung with gusto.
The evening closed with the presentation of the cup for the winner with the most points for the monthly competitions throughout the year – Barbara Ball.
Barbara and the two runners up, Jan Mitchell and Barbara Vine, were given plants.
The next meeting on January 13, 2016, will be in the Masonic Hall, The Mile at 7.15pm, when the speaker will be Peter Rogers telling of Major Stewart’s travels.
Visitors are always welcome.
Do come along if you would like to hear Peter Rogers speaking.
