The Friends of Pocklington Arts Centre group is looking to award a £1000 grant to a young person, or group of young people, to help them develop a future in the performing arts.

The group is targeting an age range that it thinks will benefit most from such an award and welcomes applications from young people between the ages of 16 years and 25 years who live in the Pocklington area.

The group is currently contacting senior schools and youth groups in the area to publicise the grant.

Applicants will be required to develop a piece of performance art that showcases what they can do, to demonstrate their ability to deliver a performance to a live audience, to explain how they intend to develop their performance art in the future, and to reveal how they would use the grant if successful.

The successful applicant will be selected following a stage competition.

Any means of providing entertainment to a live audience will be considered and the applicant does not necessarily have to be the person or the means by which it is delivered e.g. applicants could be writers, video creators etc.

A spokesman said: “Using PAC resources and other professional contacts, the aim is to engage with all applicants to provide guidance and support throughout the process and to provide opportunities for them to showcase their ability in live performances. All applicants should, therefore, benefit from the process.

“Any one interested can leave their contact details at the arts centre box office.”
