ARTIST and poet Michael Hildred, of Bolton, has released a new book combining his talents.
Inspired by his childhood and own life experiences, as well as the Yorkshire wildlife that surrounds him, Michael’s book ‘Late Flowering’ is a collection of poems and artwork that Michael believes has wide appeal.
He said: “I’m from Selby originally and lived through the flooding there in the 1940s, there are photographs of that time in the book which I think people will find most interesting.
“It is a safe book, one that can be handed down to children to enjoy.”
The book is split into three sections, childhood, middle life and late flowering, and the poems reflect Michael’s experiences of the world through these life phases.
The poetry is complemented by hand drawings, sketches and photographs.
Animals also inspire some of his work and Michael said: “My pets feature in it, but there are also poems about the animals that I have observed, such as foxes and badgers.
“I have always been interested in art and it’s nice to combine art and poetry in one book.”
Late Flowering is available from Simply Books in Pocklington, costing £8 and Michael hopes to hold an official launch party in the area in the near future.
