East Riding of Yorkshire Councillor Victoria Aitken has set out the challenges facing adult social care services in the area.
Cllr Aitken, chairman of the health, care and wellbeing overview and scrutiny committee, spoke to Members at the Full Council Meeting about the good work and challenges which affect social care locally.
East Riding is experiencing a changing population pattern – an outward migration of younger people and an inward migration of older people.
Adult social care is a challenge for the whole of the UK and in a rural area such as East Riding this is even greater.
Improvement to workers terms and conditions, improved management skills, use of technology to save time with care planning and better collaboration between public and private sectors are all areas the authority are working on to improve better adult social care.
Cllr Aitken said: “Valuing and rewarding our army of hard working and compassionate care staff who work tirelessly to support our aging population is a must.”
