ALL SAINTS Church received a much-needed boost to its funds after a successful gift day.
Over £1,500 was raised at the event on Saturday, which saw the church throw open its doors and offer visitors a potted history of the centuries-old building.
The aim of the day was to encourage visitors to contribute to the upkeep of the church which is facing a financial crisis due to rising costs and dwindling reserves.
Rev Geoff Hollingsworth was delighted with the response from the public and told the Pocklington Post: “Saturday was very, very well supported and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the community for their continued support and generosity towards All Saints’ Church.
“It was a tremendous day, people came in and enjoyed a coffee and it was just a great opportunity for fellowship and sharing ideas together on how we can secure the future of the church in these tough financial times.”
The church needs almost £2,000 a week to stay open and last year a funding shortfall meant dipping into its reserves.
In an attempt to avert a potential financial crisis into the future, a Friends of All Saints’ Church group is being set up to continue to raise money for the building.
If anybody would like to get involved in the group, or help with fundraising in any way, they are asked to contact the church office on 01759 306045 or Rev Hollingsworth on 01759 302133.
