An 88-year-old woman has died after a car crash in the area.
The collision happened at Gate Helmsley on the A166, near the BATA garage, at 11.15am last Thursday (9 April) and involved a blue Ford C-MAX and a silver Skoda Fabia.
The 88-year-old woman, who was a front seat passenger in the Skoda Fabia, was taken to York Hospital with very serious injuries. She was later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary, where she died yesterday (12 April).
The two other occupants of the Skoda Fabia, a woman and a boy, suffered minor injuries and were also taken to York Hospital but were discharged later that same day.
The road remained closed for six hours while police officers investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident.
North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses to the collision, or anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision, to get in touch as soon as possible to assist the investigation.
