A Stamford Bridge-based charity is working with the British Red Cross to provide support to elderly people in the Pocklington area who may need extra help during the winter months.

This winter the Two Ridings Community Foundation, a grant-making charity that supports small charities in North and East Yorkshire, is running its third annual Surviving Winter campaign.

The Foundation has raised over £6,000 so far and has awarded their first grant to the local British Red Cross.

Jackie McCafferty, Programmes Manager at the Two Ridings Community Foundation, said: “We are delighted to have raised over £6,000 to give away this winter.

“Of course, the more donations we receive to Surviving Winter, the more people we will be able to reach and support.”

Last winter 3,000 people in Yorkshire and the Humber died during winter, and the escalating costs of gas and electricity will force more people to choose between heating and eating as winter progresses.

l Donations to the Surviving Winter Appeal can be made by visiting the Foundation’s website www.trcf.org.uk, or just by telephoning 01759 377400 for a paper donation form.
