INTRODUCING Driffield’s latest town councillor.
Matthew Garrard, of Fawcett Gardens, Driffield, was co-opted on to the local authority to fill a seat left vacant following the resignation of Coun Jolyon Lawson.
Mr Garrard told the council that among his reasons for applying to become a town councillor was “to make Driffield a better place to live.”
“I would like to see Driffield more developed socially - ie, looking at new affordable housing projects, developing the Driffield economy, creating new business and bringing new local jobs.
“I think in becoming a town councillor, I can learn the day to day running of the town council and help put something back into the community.”
A second vacancy now exists on the authority’s west ward following the resignation of Coun Neal Pearson.
A by-election to fill the vacancy will be held if 10 electors of the town write to the chief executive of East Riding of Yorkshire Council at County Hall, Beverley, East Yorkshire, HU17 9BA, by Monday, 20 August 2012 claiming an election.
If the chief executive does not receive such a request, the town council will be informed that it may fill vacancies by co-option, which means that the council members will elect a new member from those who have expressed an interest in joining the council.
If you would like to discuss the role, please contact the town council by contacting Mrs C. Binnington, 2-4 Market Walk, Driffield YO25 6BW or call (01377) 254160.
