Woldgate School headteacher Jonathan Britton said the class of 2020 will be remembered not just through these exceptional circumstances but through the outstanding merit, character, and value they have shown.

Headteacher Jonathan Britton said: “The class of 2020 will be remembered not just through these exceptional circumstances but through the outstanding merit, character, and value they have shown throughout their time with us.

“Consequently, while their results represent another increase for Woldgate School, maintaining our high performing academic status, it is unquestionably the children themselves that we are most proud of – as well as their parents and carers for supporting them through this difficult time.

“It has been wonderful to be able to invite them back into school to see them again.

“The Year 11 class of 2020 have had to endure both the experience of lockdown and the uncertainty of how their work would be rewarded in the absence of exams.

“Along with every other child taking their GCSE exams this year, the sudden nature of the closure meant that they also missed out on a traditional ending to their GCSE studies.

“We look forward to inviting them again as a complete year group to celebrate together as soon as we can. Until then, we wish them all the very best.”
