James Cousins, 17, the owner of So Yummy Sweet Treats, qualified for the last stage of the The Peter Jones Foundation’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2021 contest.

James went through an interview with a panel of four judges to discuss his business plan. After this he found out that he was named as one of four candidates to reach the finals in September.

As part of the competition, James had to apply with a plan detailing his business ideas, what he does to enable him to be classed as a social enterprise, what his business details are, and his figures – if he is trading, profit and loss etc.

The foundation said: “James has created a successful sweet brand in So Yummy Sweet Treats that has a true social purpose at the heart of it.

“He demonstrated strong abilities as an entrepreneur and is already trading with profit.”

Miss Russell, business teacher at Woldgate, said: “Woldgate School and Sixth Form is delighted to be affiliated to the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy and the exclusive opportunities that it affords our business students.

“James was our first student to enter the Entrepreneur of the Year competition and we are absolutely thrilled and extremely proud that he has made it all the way through to the final.

“This is certainly a once in a lifetime experience for James and we are very excited and can’t wait for his final pitch.

“Go for it James!”

The student has been supporting the People’s Pantry by donating sweets from every order each month.

Heather Leach Davidson at the People’s Pantry said in a Facebook post: “We’re so happy and proud of you James, and we’re rooting for you to win the final. Thank you for everything you do for The People’s Pantry.”
