Wilberfoss resident Helen Shakeshaft said winning the Pocklington Post competition prize for a night’s stay at the Kilnwick Percy resort is the perfect break as she doesn’t need to worry about travel plans.

The local primary school teaching assistant will only have to make a round trip of 12-miles to enjoy a break away from home for the first time in over a year.

She said: “I don’t enter many competitions, but I saw this one in the paper and thought the prize sounded amazing, so I thought why not, and entered.

“I’m over the moon to win, but my children aren’t that happy as I’ll definitely be going with my husband Adrian.”

The competition, which was run by Bellway Homes and Darwin Escapes to promote a new show home at the housebuilder’s Pocklington development Ambler’s Grange, gave one lucky reader the chance to win an overnight stay for two in a Huxtable Suite at the Kilnwick Percy resort, spa treatments, gym access, an introduction to golf lesson and dinner and drinks for two – an experience that would normally cost £500. All, of course, once lockdown restrictions allow for it.
