30-home development proposal at former Healan Ingredients site
A proposal for a 30-home development in Market Weighton, with associated parking and infrastructure, has been presented to the East Riding of Yorkshire planning department.
The planning application (20/02205/PLF), would see a major development at the old Healan Ingredients Ltd site on Londesborough Road.
The Design and Access statement said: “The site is located at the heart of Market Weighton only a few minutes’ walk from the town centre, and just outside the Conservation Area for the town.
“The site is currently occupied by a redundant manufacturing business who have relocated their operations to North Newbald.
“The site layout has been designed to provide a street façade onto Londesbrough Road to reinforce the urban edge which has been missing for most of the site’s history.”
A number of residents and Market Weighton Town Council have objected to the proposed development.
Mayor Peter Hemmerman said: “The majority of councillors were for refusal. I recommended refusal on the grounds of rainwater flood risk because no sustainable drainage system or retention was visible on the plan plus there are many resident objections.
“We were also concerned about the cutting down of mature trees for no other reason than to allow more houses and the closeness of the houses and gardens to adjacent trees, which will lead to future overhang issues.”
