Air guitars at the ready as Rock of Ages hits the Grand Opera House, York.

York Stage Musicals is back with their mix of local Yorkshire talent to take on this high note hitting musical and build on the success of 9 to 5 (The Dolly Parton Musical), Ghost, Hairspray and Sister Act.

At the tail end of 1980s Hollywood, the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, the Bourbon Room, a place where sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage.

Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing and aches for the affection of small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes.

But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another shopping mall.

Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip?

Nik Briggs, Artistic Director, says of the show “Rock of Ages is so much more than a musical, it’s a mini Rock concert. The company have already taken the vocally demanding challenge of these classic songs head on and are making the most phenomenal sound.”

This 80s-themed musical featuresongs including We Built This City, the Final Countdown, Here I go Again, I Want to Know What Love is and Don’t Stop Believing.

It runs at York Grand Opera House from Friday April 7 to Saturday April 15, daily at 7.30pm. Matinees on 8 and 15 at 2.30pm.
