MARKET WEIGHTON town council has pledged £50 to help Pocklington Arts Centre’s ambitions to switch to digital technology.
Pocklington town council requested a donation and the matter was put to the vote at last week’s Market Weighton town council meeting.
Councillors were split down the middle, with half believing that they should not be donating money to projects outside of their town.
Those in favour argued that many Market Weighton residents use the Arts Centre cinema as it is the nearest facility of its kind, so a donation would benefit Market Weighton residents.
Town Mayor Peter Hemmerman had the deciding vote and was in favour of giving £50.
He said: “We are looking at supporting the change over to digital equipment, if they don’t get that, nobody will be watching films there in the future.”
