East Yorkshire Under-10s cricket team played their first game of the season, against a strong North Yorkshire team at Pocklington CC on Bank Holiday Monday.
After losing the toss, all the East Yorkshire bowlers bowled with accuracy, restricting North Yorkshire to 90-5 in their 35 overs.
The pick of the bowlers was Ted Baty (Pocklington CC) who took 2-3 in his three overs, bowling a variety of leg-spin deliveries.
Gaurav Achawal (Cottingham CC) was the only other wicket taker, taking 1-6 in his four overs.
At the tea interval, hopes were high of a victory.
However, North Yorkshire came out fighting, bowling straighter and with more pace.
Their spinners also took useful wickets.
East Yorkshire lost crucial early wickets, with Oliver Parsonage (Selby CC) holding the innings together with a solid seven.
Harry Newton (Patrington CC) smashed a useful 19 and Mackenzie Harman (Patrington CC) occupied the crease for a solid 12, but no other batsmen got into double figures - East Yorkshire finishing well short of victory.
A disappointing start to the season but some useful performances.
It is hoped that we will be playing a return fixture at Knaresborough CC on Sunday 27 July - players to be informed nearer the date.
Well done boys - go back to your clubs and score plenty of runs, take lots of wickets and work hard at your fielding.
