Pocklington Under-13s travelled to play Hull Ionians on Sunday, and found a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch.
Pocklington had the elements behind them in the first half, but Ionians are a powerful outfit and the only favour the wind did for Pock was to stop some of the conversions from reaching the posts after Ionians had blasted through to the line.
Ionians were already out of sight by half time, and Pocklington still had the rampant Ionians side and the gale to face in the second half.
A rousing team talk from the coaches during the interval galvanised Pocklington into renewed efforts and they held firm against the Ionian barrage for a good five minutes.
Pocklington had a rare foray upfield but Ionians offloaded to one of their big men and he was able to run through the Pock cover and score.
More of the same followed from the bigger Ionians side, and though Pocklington dug in and did well with some good defence it was not enough as Ionians crossed for three more tries and added two conversions for a comprehensive victory.
