Field success for pupils
Three Pocklington students represented the school in the East Riding Athletics trials, held last week.
Close games for Bubwith
Bubwith tennis club’s mixed first team had a good result this week with a win away to Poppleton, the final score was 56-52. Liz Bramley and Jon Longthorp top scored with 23 games.
Stamina challenge for runners
The second leg of the YDRRL 10K series of races took place in Tadcaster on a cool and, largely, dry evening. The course includes a couple of steep hills which challenged the season stamina of the 233 runners.
Walker keeps on jumping
Fourteen-year-old Chelsea Walker from Shiptonthorpe did really well at the English Schools Combined Championships at Exeter, coming seventh out of the whole of the UK.
Sunshine for Sutton
After a quiet week for Sutton upon Derwent tennis club, with most fixtures cancelled due to the wet weather, the second mixed team played at home on Wednesday night in the sunshine against Appleton Roebuck.
Bouncing up like Zebedee
Pocklington’s mixed A tennis team played Driffield Rec this week on their excellent grass courts.
Tennis troubles in the dark
Sledmere tennis players were in full force in Pocklington this week, fielding teams to play Pocklington’s mixed B and E, and the ladies B, with mixed results.
Sutton’s season starts
After the disappointment of their first match of the season being cancelled last week, Sutton ladies were raring to go. They played host to Copmanthorpe in their first match in division four, after gaining promotion last season.
Pocklington enjoy home run
The first 10km race of the YDRRL summer series took place on a gloomy and cool evening that was more suited to the winter.
Golfers descend on Allerthorpe
Allerthorpe Park Golf Club hosted the East Riding Union of Golf Club’s (ERUGC) spring meeting on Thursday 3 May. Over 200 golfers teed off at Allerthorpe throughout the day and enjoyed a dry round of golf.
Men’s doubles
Sutton upon Derwent men took advantage of a free week at the start of the season to play the annual men’s doubles competition.
Runners battle with the elements
Warwick Anderson and Richard Ginn undertook an arduous ultra event in severely challenging conditions. The Fellsman is a high-level traverse covering more than 60 miles over very hard rugged moorland. The event climbs over 11,000 feet in its path from Ingleton to Threshfield in the Yorkshire Dales. This is not just a test of endurance, but of navigational skills.
Mixed fortunes for mixed tennis teams
Torrential rain, gales, floods, yes, the new tennis season is underway again. Not surprisingly, the weather laid waste to most of the matches in the opening week of the Driffield and York Leagues.
Pock Pedal 2012
Clifton Cycling Club is running a Cycle Sportive. Pock Pedal 2012 is an organised ride covering 85, 55 or 25 miles depending on the size of challenge you are looking for.
