POCKLINGTON School’s under-13 tennis team have made it through to the Yorkshire final of the national schools’ championships, following a comprehensive victory over Hymers.

Angus Field, Oscar Cavill, Tom Loten and Jonty Atkinson – all Year 8 pupils – beat the Hymers team 6–0 and are now one of the last eight teams in the Northern Region of the Aegon Team Tennis Schools competition.

Trevor Loten, tennis teacher at Pocklington School, said: “Angus had a tough singles match at number one, eventually winning 7–5, while Oscar, Jonty and Tom all cruised to 6–1 wins. The doubles matches were won 6–4 and 6–2.

“All the lads played really well and deserve a pat on the back.”

The Pocklington team won the York and Ryedale region of the competition in May and now face an away trip to either Ilkley Grammar School or Brooklands School, Elland, with the prize being the Yorkshire title and a place in the North of England and Scotland finals day which takes place in November.
