The Sutton ladies were keen to get another win under their belts, following their hard fought victory last week against Appleton Roebuck.
They welcomed Poppleton ladies on a damp and blustery Saturday morning and soon got in to their stride, finishing the first rubber with a two game advantage.
The home side proceeded to increase their lead in the second and then the third rubber, ending in a convincing win for Sutton 67-41.
Romualda Plewes and Julie Nowell won 21 games, as did Lynne Marriage and Jane Pearson.
The top scoring pair was Lucy Collier and Olivia Turner with 25 games.
The mixed 3rd team had an exciting game with their visit to Poppleton.
The match turned into a very close encounter, the Sutton team scored an impressive 25 games in the final round to take the match by the narrowest of margins 55–53.
Sutton’s top scorers for the evening were Adrian Hitchenor and Peggy Hodgson who came up smelling of roses with 22 games.
The Hobson family’s dance for rain had a dramatic effect on the weekend as it saw the cancellation of the Howdenshire Cup due to the inclement weather. A date will be released for the event in the near future.
On Saturday 4 June, with no ladies matches, the club is holding their Ladies Day, competing for the club singles and doubles trophies.
The tournament starts at 10am and all Sutton lady members are welcome.
