Sutton ladies travelled to Bishopthorpe this Saturday, knowing that in order to stand any chance of a promotion position, they had to win.
Before the match, Bishopthorpe were second and Sutton was just one point behind, in third place.
The pairs of Lucy Collier with Peggy Hodgson, Jane Pearson with Rachel Mintoft and Rachel Wake with Olivia Turner set to work.
Sutton finished the first rubber one game ahead. They then dropped one game in the second rubber and so the third rubber started with nothing to separate the two clubs.
There were some very tense and nervous moments across the three courts but Sutton stayed calm and took 21 games, giving them a vital win 57-51.
This now puts Sutton in second position, just one point ahead of Bishopthorpe with two re-arranged matches to go. This was a very strong team effort. Well done to the ladies.
In the men’s league, after a couple of defeats in division three of the York League, the men’s team had a comfortable win at Rufforth 75–33.
With Nick Ridley being called back to help stack the Aldi shelves, and Max Los being involved with other Scottish attractions, it was left to Nowell and Lochman to steer the ship home, scoring 28 games.
The following week, a good performance by the team was not enough to stop Sherburn recording a 61-47 victory.
A hard-hitting game saw Max Los play particularly well against some useful opposition, however it was not to be.
