Pock under-13s thwart revenge attack

Pocklington Under-13s 36

Otley Under-13s 20

On a bright sunny Sunday morning, Wolds-sponsored Pocklington under-13s played host to Otley, who were out for revenge following their defeat by Pock in the Yorkshire Cup.

From the off, Otley attacked Pock’s line. The pressure was immense and and Pock started making silly errors. These were exploited by Otley and, within five minutes, the home side were two tries down.

The omens looked bad and it looked like Otley would have their revenge, but slowly Pock began to settle down and their defensive line began to absorb the presssure. Pock began to build on this and began to go on the offensive.

The opening move came from Elliot who outpaced the pack to score with a lovely solo run to open Pock’s account.

During the next phase, Pock forwards and backs dominated the rucks and mauls. They fought and chased for every ball. Elliot went on to score a further two tries when he easily cruised past Otley’s defences.

Otley responded by scoring a further two tries of their own.

Just before half time, William managed to snatch the lead back for Pock by scoring from a solo run to make it 24-20 at the break.

Otley started the second half on the offensive. They battered Pock’s defences and it looked like they were going to score. The Pock line held and the ball was passed wide to Jonty who ran the full length of the pitch. He was caught just short of the line and he managed to pass to James who stormed over the line to score.

The final try for Pock came from a penalty. Elliot kicked the ball up the field, hoping to gain ground. The ball stayed in play and there was a mad chase to see who could get there first. James got there and was forced to kick it up the field to avoid the chasing pack. Again, James reached the ball first and kicked it over the line. He managed to dive on the ball to score a memorable try.

Elliot had a good day with the boot with three conversions as, at the final whistle, Pock won 36-20.
