After being all square at 17-17 on the hour, Pocklington’s under-17s produced a barnstorming last quarter to pull clear for another good win.

Having given away an early penalty, Pock found themselves straight away defending their own 22 before a strong run by Callum Neave reversed the advantage and, after a nail-biting contest, Eddie Salmon plunged over for Pocklington, Ben Sunderland converting.

York came back strongly and Adam Bell put in a belting tackle to keep his side afloat. It was end to end stuff before York broke through to edge them back in front. But Pocklington again fought back and a great score from Jack Bullock took them into a 12-8 lead at half time.

Pocklington struck first in the second period as Riley Anderson put in a great pass to winger Alex McLeod who sprinted over to increase the lead.

York once more produced a strong response, and Pocklington had to do more determined defending before York eventually broke through for two tries in quick succession to make it 17-17.

The momentum was now with York, but Pocklington’s defence held firm to stem the tide and, following a clever inside ball by Anderson, the ubiquitous Bell charged over for his side’s fourth try.

Back in the lead, Pocklington dug deep to finish the stronger. Man-of-the-match Bullock put in another remarkable run from the halfway line before passing to Sunderland who kicked through under pressure and replacement Alex Dhir dived on it to score the final try, Ben Sunderland converting to end the game on a high.
