The Pocklington School first VII rugby team ran out worthy winners of the Plate at the recent Hymers Under-19 Super Sevens competition.
After a promising start versus Mount St Mary’s (winning 21-10), losses to Woodhouse Grove and the eventual Cup winners Barnard Castle saw the team into the plate competition.
A try-fest in the quarter-final against Read saw an emphatic Pocklington win 47-10. The semi-final versus a strong Birkdale side went down to the wire, with the boys going four tries down and looking completely out of the game. But a miraculous recovery and some outstanding sevens play saw the boys score four unanswered converted tries to win 28-26 in the last minute.
The final versus Hymers continued in the same vein, with the boys saving their best sevens of the year for last and dismantling their opponents 50-7 in a one-sided affair.
