Every club golfer has high hopes for the new season. Optimism is always high after a long winter playing off the yellow tees and temporary greens.
There will be new sets of clubs, new drivers, perhaps some lessons from the club pro. But will it all be in vain?
For Lee Smith, the April Medal was a start to the seasonof which all golfers dream.
Playing off a handicap of 24, Lee shot a gross 84 for a nett 10 under par score of 60.
Playing off the white tees for the first time this season and a brisk breeze blowing, conditions were tough and, with only six other golfers shooting below par Lee’s score was never in danger.
A Pearce could have pushed Lee for the lead if he had played the par three holes as well as he played the rest. Despite shooting a five under par 65 he dropped five shots on three of the short holes.
In Division 1 Matt Steriker, playing off a handicap of six, shot the lowest gross of the day with a 74 which included four birdies.
The results were as follows:
1st: Matt Steriker (68)
2nd: Pete Williamson (68)
3rd: Dom Huzzard (69)
1st: Lee Smith (60)
2nd: A Pearce (65)
