Late charge seals Huxtable cup victory

The Huxtable Cup, named in honour of the family that founded the KP golf course, is a major eventin the KP golfing calendar.

This year’s event was keenly contested, as always, and went down to the wire.

Conditions were not ideal, and scoring was always going to be difficult.

The cards returned by the early starters confirmed this and it was with some surprise that Gareth Pudsey found himself the leader in the clubhouse with a level par 36.

For quite a while this looked good enough to take the trophy until Ben Donkin also carded a 36 but took the lead courtesy of a better back nine holes.

Next to stake a claim to the title was Richard Hollingsworth.

Richard, playing off a handicap of 21, had managed to finish three under par on the front nine and just needed to have a steady homeward nine holes to put down a challenging score.

However, despite pars on 11, 13, 14 and 15 he failed to score on 10, 16 and 17 and finished on 38 points.

Not as good as he could have scored but good enough to take the lead.

The final word though was left to Dave Sach.

A very steady round saw Dave come to the turn threeunder par.

Showing no sign of nerves, Dave completed his round with only one shot dropped at the par thre 17th and finished with a four under par total of 42 points to take the honours.
