Lacrosse played at Pocklington School for the first time ever

Pocklington School’s first ever lacrosse match took place on Tuesday against a strong Barnard Castle side, at home.

They were blessed with excellent weather and the Pocklington School supporters were out in full voice.

The girls played with superb commitment and fought their hardest to combat a fluid, aggressive attack.

Unfortunately, they succumbed to some skilful runs and passing formations, particularly towards the latter end of each quarter, with Barnard Castle eventually running out 10-0 winners.

The girls can look back on an opening game which made both Mrs Hallam and Miss Lamb enormously proud to be involved in lacrosse at Pocklington.

Their discipline, endeavour and spirit never waivered, and the opposition coach commented that we were truly fierce in defence.

In particular, Amparo Pons Grau made two excellent saves and the defensive work of Catriona and Sophie Graham was superb.

Emily Wright led with positive play throughout the match and Anais Russell made some terrific runs from midfield.

The whole team deserve great credit and they look forward to their next fixture.
