Holme-on-Spalding Moor has a well kept secret - the bowling club.
It has been going for many years and operates all year round, at the village hall during the winter, with the short mat indoor bowling and, during the summer, at the magnificent green lovingly tended by Eric White.
Holme Bowling club would like to invite anyone young or old to come along and give it a try, and every Friday from 15 April, at 2pm, beginners are invited along for a friendly introduction to the graceful art of bowling, a sport that has been practised by every section of society for centuries.
Even the English maritime hero Francis Drake was a bowls player, delaying going out to sea to fight the Spanish Armada until he had finished his game, which presumably he was winning at the time.
The green is located behind the Blacksmiths Pub in the centre of the village, or ring 01430 860447 and speak to Eric for more details.
