Pocklington under-8s travelled to Driffield on Mothers’ Day for the East Yorkshire Festival, and put in performances to make their Mums proud.
Their first match against Bridlington went down to the wire due to defensive frailties, but a try in the last few seconds won it for Pocklington 6–5. While defence isn’t the under-8s strong point, they can be relied upon to score well, and they did so again to overcome Beverley 6–4.
By now, the tries were starting to be complemented by ferocious tagging and better defensive structure to result in 6–3 and 5–2 wins against Malton and Driffield.
This left the final match of Pocklington’s morning against their well-organised rivals Goole. Despite a determined effort Pocklington lost out 5–3. And who do the under 8s play at home next Sunday? Goole.
Arthur Whelan, Callum Childs, Frank Buckle, Freddie Griggs, Henry Woodruff, Joe Cheney, John Burley, Johnny Raper, Olly Grainger, Will Grewer and Patrick Jessop all played very well and thoroughly deserved to take home their players’ medals to show their Mums.
